Apple Pie

I don't know anyone that doesn't like Apple Pie! We had a ton of apples that needed to be eaten up and I didn't want them to go bad, especially during these times, I don't want to waste food. I had pie crust dough in the freezer so pie it was! I'm so happy we did, because the pie and all 7 apples were goggled up that night. No waste over here!

Ingredients:

1 package Ready Made Pie Crust

7 Granny Smith Apples peeled, cored and thinly sliced

1 1/2 tsp Cinnamon

8 tbsp unsalted Butter

3 tbsp All-Purpose Flour

1/4 cup Water

1 cup granulated Sugar

1 Egg + 1 tbsp Water, for egg wash

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees, take out the ready made pie crust and let it thaw on the counter.

  2. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in flour then simmer for 1 minute, whisking constantly. Whisk in water, sugar and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and continue simmering 3 minutes, whisking frequently then remove from heat.

  3. Peel, remove cores and thinly slice apples and place them in a large bowl. Sprinkle the top with cinnamon and toss to combine. Pour the sauce over the apples and stir to coat the apple slices.

  4. Place 1 piece of the dough in your pie pan, pinch the edges to get a scalloped look. Add apple mixture, mounding slightly in the center and being careful not to get the filling on the edges which would make it difficult to seal.

  5. Unroll the 2nd piece of dough and cut into 10 even thickness strips using a pizza cutter. Arrange strips in a woven lattice pattern over the top.

  6. Beat together 1 egg and 1 Tbsp water and brush the top with egg mixture.

  7. Bake at 425 for 15 minutes. Reduce the heat to 350 and continue baking another 45 minutes or until apples are soft and filling is bubbling through the vents. Rest at room temp 1 hour before serving. I love it a la mode!
