Apple Turnovers

My mom and dad are obsessed with these. They always share a dessert, unless it's this, they both want their own. It's the perfect desert with some vanilla or coconut ice cream. It's one of my favorites for sure!

Ingredients:

2 Apples, peeled and cored

2 tbsp Butter

1 cup Brown Sugar

2 tsp Ground Cinnamon

1 tsp Ground Nutmeg

1 tbsp Cornstarch

1 tbsp Water

1 sheet frozen Puff Pastry, thawed

1 Egg

1 tbsp Milk

2 tbsp Sugar

Instructions:

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

  2. Peel and chop the apples into small, bite-sized pieces.

  3. In a medium-sized pan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Add apples into the brown sugar mixture. Stir occasionally. Sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg evenly over apples. Stir until well-combined.

  4. In a small bowl, mix together cornstarch and water. Pour into apple mixture and stir until it thickens. Remove from heat.

  5. Cut puff pastry into 9 small squares. Place on the lined baking sheet. Scoop a bit of the apple mixture in the center of each puff pastry square. Fold over each puff pastry to form a triangle and press the edges with a fork.

  6. Whisk together egg and milk. Brush egg wash over each puff pastry triangle and sprinkle with sugar.

  7. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Let cool for a few minutes, serve plain or with ice cream!
