If these don't take you back to high school, I don't know what will! These were a brunch must at MDUSD. My kids love these, and asked if I can try and make it for them. Challenge accepted! These came out great. Make sure to stick to the rise time, or your cheese might ooze out! I hope you enjoy this nostalgic treat!
Ingredients:
2 cups Warm Water
3 tbsp Dry Yeast
1/4 cup Butter, melted
6 cups Bread Flour
1/3 cup Sugar
3/4 tsp Salt
32 oz Velveeta Cheese
Instructions:
Dissolve the yeast in the warm water for 5 minutes, it should start bubbling to the top.
Add the melted butter to the yeast mixture and set aside.
In a stand mixer, using the bread hook, add 5 cups of bread flour, sugar and salt and mix to combine, make a well in the middle and pour in the yeast mixture and continue to mix for 5 minutes.
Lightly flour a flat surface and hand knead the dough for about 5 minutes, continue to lightly flour the dough if it gets too sticky. Form into a 12 inch log and cover it with a light cloth for 10 minutes.
Cut the dough to 12 individual pieces, flatten each piece into a rectangle and roll the dough around a 1 - 2 oz block of Velveeta cheese. Tuck the corners on the bottom, pinching it closed and place on a cookie sheet.
Cover the zombies with a light cloth and let them double in size, should be around 1-1.5 hours.
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and let them bake for 15 minutes. Brush with some melted butter, let it cool for a bit and serve immediately!
